Nestled in the vibrant heart of New York’s East Village, Lil’ Frankie’s is a beloved Italian restaurant and pizza haven that captures the essence of unpretentious, soulful dining. Known for its warm and inviting ambiance, this charming spot seamlessly blends the comfort of classic Italian fare with a lively neighborhood vibe, making it a perfect setting for everything from casual brunches to intimate dinners.
The cuisine at Lil’ Frankie’s is a celebration of authentic Italian flavors crafted with fresh, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. The menu reads like a love letter to Italy, showcasing standouts such as the bright and zesty Spaghetti Limone — a customer favorite praised for its vibrant lemon-infused sauce that perfectly balances richness and tang. Signature pizzas like the delightfully crisp Margherita and the indulgent Truffle Pizza offer an irresistible combination of chewy, flavorful crusts topped with fresh mozzarella, aromatic herbs, and drizzles of premium olive oil. For those craving heartier fare, the Chicken Parmigiana Pasta delivers comforting layers of tender chicken in a rich tomato sauce paired with perfectly cooked pasta.
Beyond pizza, the antipasti selections dazzle with dishes like the freshly fried calamari served alongside tangy tomato sauce and lemon, and the creamy Burrata Caprese, where ripe tomatoes and fresh basil complement the luscious cheese beautifully. Complimenting these are the restaurant’s complimentary bread and olive oil, which set the tone for the thoughtfully prepared meal to come.
Diners are often enchanted by Lil’ Frankie’s atmosphere — a cozy yet energetic environment with a charming back room awash in natural sunlight and a buzzing bar area. Brunch enthusiasts particularly rave about the spirited vibe, complete with a popular three-for-one cocktail deal, while the charming outdoor patio offers a relaxing escape from the city’s pace. The service has been described as warm and attentive, with staff who make guests feel right at home, even if it’s a bit of a cash-only quirk.
To round out your meal, don’t miss the homemade desserts like the silky Tiramisu or the luxurious Valrhona Chocolate Cake. Their sweet notes linger memorably, perfect for a lingering finish to a satisfying meal.
With consistent praise, locals frequently return to Lil’ Frankie’s for its reliably delicious dishes and welcoming ambiance. Whether it’s the comforting lemony spaghetti that keeps them coming back or the crispy, wood-roasted pizzas that make each bite sing, Lil’ Frankie’s stands as a steadfast gem in New York’s culinary landscape — a place where simple, heartfelt Italian cooking delights every time.
Our go-to place when we want delicious and unpretentious Italian food! It has everything for everyone. If we can’t agree on a place to go, we always end up going to Lil’ Frankie’s. It never fails and stands strong as always!
Their lemon pasta truly is amazing. Excellent tiramisu. Cozy environment. Only downside is that service was a little slow. Note: It is cash only which is a little frustrating.
Cute brunch spot, cash only. We come here pretty often, but I have only visited for brunch. Loved the French toast - it's very cinnamony. Lemon spaghetti is always our go to. I love the 3 for 1 cocktail during brunch! Attentive server and great food. Back room is super pretty with sunlight.
Absolutely delicious! Pizza was great, the dough and crust are fantastic. Good drinks, good salad, good mozzarella appetizer. Complementary bread and olives and olive oil would definitely recommend, and come here again!
Wonderful service, warm greeting by the hostess, courteous wait staff; server was super friendly; extremely fast delivery of food and beverages once ordered! Had reservations for 11:15P on the Saturday before Halloween, but arrived a few hours earlier at 8:15; and there was either bar seating or outdoor seating. We opted for the patio seating versus the sidewalk seating, y’all be careful because to get to the covered patio, you gotta cross the bike lane, and these uber delivery drivers / citibikers are pedaling fast! Our table also had a wobble, but the staff were pretty attentive and fixed the wobbly table. Got the margherita pizza, which had a nice fluffy crust, nice char and lovely cheese and sauce ratio/flavor. Wonderful time, reservations highly recommended. Want to come back to try other entrees and pizzas.
Late night best - Little Frankie’s is exactly what it sets out to be—gritty, no-nonsense, old-school Italian that nails the essentials. The homemade pasta special of the day (ours was a tagliatelle Bolognese) was a standout—saucy, savory, and clearly made with care. Same goes for the pizza: thin, crisp crust with a char that tells you someone back there knows what they’re doing. This isn’t fine dining and it doesn’t pretend to be—thankfully. It’s cozy, loud, slightly chaotic, and full of charm. The chicken Parm is textbook in the best way: crispy breading, gooey cheese, rich sauce. Service was fast and unfussy. It’s the kind of place that feels like it’s been holding it down for decades because it has. If you want polished and pretentious, go elsewhere. If you want legit red-sauce comfort and a room with character, Little Frankie’s delivers.
I’m a huge fan of Frank and his work. I’ve been to Daddies as well and wow is all I can say. Great pizza and great pasta no complaints. Must stop by. The olives to accompany your bread is a tremendous touch.
